Description

One of the world’s leading technology companies, Epson (Seiko Epson Corporation), selected Latvia as a strategic location for the development of its business services centre as part of its European expansion, establishing the Epson Europe Business Services branch in the country. This decision highlights Latvia’s attractiveness to foreign investors, as well as the importance of reliable local partners who can ensure compliance with local legislation and support efficient day-to-day operations.

Our Contribution

Grant Thornton became involved in the project in early 2026, providing advisory support on employee onboarding in Latvia and the establishment of employment relationships. The engagement was carried out in close collaboration with Epson’s representatives in the United Kingdom.

As part of the project, Grant Thornton delivered comprehensive advisory support on Latvian labour law and payroll-related tax requirements, including guidance on a range of practical situations encountered in day-to-day operations. Particular attention was given to remuneration structures — including base salary, bonuses, and employee benefits — as well as their accounting treatment and taxation in Latvia. In addition, considerations related to employees with different statuses were assessed, as the workforce includes both Latvian residents and Ukrainian nationals.

Results

Following a successful implementation, Grant Thornton now delivers full-scope monthly payroll services for Epson’s operations in Latvia. The company expects its workforce in Latvia to grow to as many as 150 employees, highlighting the scalability and robustness of the solution implemented.

This project illustrates how international companies entering the Latvian market rely on Grant Thornton as a trusted partner for establishing strong payroll and accounting foundations. By combining in-depth local expertise with a clear understanding of the needs of global organisations, Grant Thornton helps create a solid platform for sustainable growth in Latvia.
